Opera launches Touch

Touch is a mobile browser aimed at one-handed use

Opera Software today introduced a brand-new mobile internet browser called Touch and updated its desktop internet browser so that the two can better remain in sync.

The Oslo-based internet browser maker presented Opera Touch, an Android application that includes one-hand operation and concentrates on search, with the latter controling the screen as users launch Touch.

"The existing internet browsers are not doing their job effectively," argued Maciej Kocemba, an Opera product manager, during an early-Wednesday live-streamed launch occasion that was provided later on as a recording. He then demonstrated how designers had cast the internet browser's UI (user interface) so that buttons and functions, consisting of search and tabs, are all within reach of the user's thumb.

"Unlike in the majority of other internet browsers, you can now more quickly search and browse the web when on the move," Kocemba added in an accompanying Wednesday post to the company's blog.
